MATH MISSION
Mathematics can be found all around us. In this class students will work on making connections
between real world situations and mathematics. Students will utilize visual, contextual,
physical, symbolic and verbal representations. Students will further develop their ability to
justify and explain their reasoning with attention on the structure and essential features of
mathematical ideas. Students will use informational text, videos, and online resources to create
mathematical questions.
Mathematical Practices
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
METHODS OF EVALUATION
1. Teacher observation/questioning/monitoring
2. Class work
3. Class participation
4. Class Presentations
5. Activities and projects
6. Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking represented in Journals
7. Online Math Programs (IReady)
8. Written and Online Assessments
